Glamdring, as it was baptized by their smiths, was produced during the first age specially for Turgon, the King of the fabled elvish “hidden city” of Gondolin. The etymology of the word comes from Quenya language tree, and is composed by the elements “Glam”, which means “shouting, confused noise” and “Dring”, which means “beat” or “strike”. Together, the elements meant for “foe-hammer”.
It was described as being “white and gold sword, with a beautiful scabbard and jewelled hilt” and said to shine with a cold blue light when orcs were encountered nearby, due to its runic incantations throughout the blade.
