Beck has spent his career going left when people thought he was going right. A master of all things unexpected, his last album, 2014’s Morning Phase, which took home the Grammy for Album of the Year, was lush and mellow, driven by harmonies and acoustic guitar. Since then, however, he's moved far away from that sound, and his latest release is further evidence the shift. Heavy on acoustic guitar, "Up All Night", is the closest he's ever come to straight-up pop, a sprightly bouncing track with a radio-friendly sound and some creative production tricks, albeit with that signature twist of alt-funk that he does so well.
