It can happen to anyone who can foresee the future...like father like son...
I'm going to say it since people keep misinterpreting this scene:
Luke NEVER wanted to kill Ben Solo, he went that night to confront (or double check) his nephew's darkness while he slept, he NEVER WENT WITH THE INTENTION TO KILL HIM that night, he went just to look at his inner darkness he felted during the training ... so he looked inside and saw the terrible future deaths of his loved ones, especially Han and Leia ... so he thought ... HE THOUGHT about stopping the future (just like his father Anakin trying to save Padme from dying) Luke thought about stopping that terrible future from happening, THE DARK SIDE BLINDED HIM once again (Snoke's or Palpatine's influence), and his actions were linked with his thoughts, and for the briefest moment of pure instinct he thought he could stop it ... his actions and thoughts were linked ... so he accidentally IGNITED the lightsaber ... BUT IMMEDIATELY ... he immediately regret it and felted shame ... but it was too late ... the last thing he saw, before he could say or explain the misunderstanding, was the frightened eyes of his nephew whose master had failed him!
