For the first time, Taronga Zoo's eucalyptus plantation will be cared for with recycled water thanks to our Richmond Water Recycling Plant.
We can supply up to 55 kilolitres of water a day to maintain the newly planted Eucalyptus trees, or the equivalent of almost 5,000 bathtubs of water every week.
It takes around a thousand trees to provide enough food for each koala, and the zoo has 19 of them - so that's a lot of gum leaves!
Using recycled water is of paramount importance as it saves the supply of precious drinking water, especially during drought and bushfire conditions.
