A media briefing session was held on Saturday afternoon for the Chinese Olympic team after arriving at Hong Kong earlier for their three-day visit.
The 64-member delegation, led by Liu Peng, minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, includes 42 medalists and three elite athletes from Chinese mainland.
Meeting the media at the Intercontinental Grand Stanford, where the delegation is staying, Liu thanked the Hong Kong people for their continuous support with sports development on the mainland.
"The fact that so many people in Hong Kong would like to interact with our elite athletes shows their passion towards sports and their willingness to improve their physical conditions as well as quality of life through exercise. I believe that it is clearly a sign of social progress. I also feel proud of what we are doing now of encouraging more Hong Kong citizens to participate in sports activities. Besides, communication between athletes and locals can also help achieve this goal," said Liu.
Lang Ping, China's women's volleyball head coach, attended the briefing and set forth her understanding on the never-give-up spirit that their volleyball team used to win the gold medal.
"Times have changed and so have the volleyball skills and rules. But the spirit of China's women's volleyball team has passed on and never changed. In group events like volleyball, we would like to see players as a team reaching for glory rather than individual's. The never-give-up spirit is what we have and will still adhere to in the future," said Lang.
Fu Yuanhui, the Olympic bronze medalist of the women' s 100m backstroke and also the new Asian record maker, gathered a lot of attention at the press conference for her adorable and outspoken interviews during the Rio Olympics.
"I have never dreamed of becoming so popular. I like Hong Kong and always wanted to visit. But I couldn't due to our compact training schedule. There are so many interesting places to go and delicious food to eat in Hong Kong. I always believe that we are a family, no matter whether you are from the mainland or Hong Kong. We are brothers and sisters. I am really grateful for your love for me," said Fu.
Liu Guoliang, Chinese men's table tennis head coach, swimming star Sun Yang and top badminton player Lin Dan also attended the briefing.
As part of their visit to Hong Kong, the delegation will put on demonstrations involving several Olympic sports, including table tennis, badminton, diving and gymnastics in the Queen Elizabeth Stadium and Victoria Park.
More than five-thousand people have already bought tickets for the events. The medalists will also interact with young Hong Kong athletes and the public. The delegation will leave for Macao on Monday afternoon.More on:[ Ссылка ]
