Check out my new guitar lesson on how to play 'Pocket Full of Stars' by Nine Black Alps. This song (which I'd honestly never heard of before) was made famous by the 2007 movie 'Surf's Up'.
This was another viewer request and I chose it this week because it's a great song to get you started with some fingerstyle picking patterns, in which we are picking the strings (or arpeggiating) rather than strumming the chords.
In this guitar tutorial, I will take you through all the chords, chord progressions, and picking patterns with the accompanying tab on-screen. You have to take your time with the picking patterns. If you're new to the technique it will take some time so be patient. And make sure you work along to a metronome to keep good time in the fingers!
If you need guidance on anything in the video, I would suggest you check out my YouTube Guitarist's Survival Guide which has loads of ideas and concepts for beginner guitarists.
