We’ve settled for poor quality, inferior building materials in the USA. Hollow core interior doors are the standard in construction. They’re called hollow core because as you can see, the inside is hollow. They’re simply a thin wood frame filled with cardboard that bonds two thin layers of plywood together. They’re literally paper thin. There is no sound insulation. If it’s in your renovation budget, pay extra for quality and order solid core doors that don’t skimp on materials and are constructed to last a lifetime. You’ll have to special order them, but this is one area of your build, remodel or DIY where you should splurge.
