(12 Mar 2003) STORY
An anti-war demonstrator leapt in front of Tony Blair's official limousine Wednesday and wrenched off its number plate before being arrested by police.
The incident happened as the British prime minister was being driven to an art exhibition where he was due to meet visiting German Chancellor Gerhardt Schroeder.
The demonstrator, veteran campaigner Peter Tatchell, demanded that Blair call off the war against Iraq - and arm the Kurds and Shias instead.
Its' not the first time Mr Tatchell's convictions have resulted in physical violence meeted out by security forces.
He was badly beaten by Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe's security in March 2001 when he tried to perform a citizen's arrest on him in Brussels.
