Here is my pick for the top 20 most fundamentally important x86 Assembly instructions. If you're new to x86 Assembly and your wondering where to start learning, have a look at these 20 instructions first. Armed only with these instructions and a basic knowledge of the register set, you can code almost anything at all!
There's well over 500 x86 instructions. The sheer number of instructions can make it difficult to know where to start learning x86 Assembly language. I've selected the most important and fundamental of all instructions for this list. These instruction are the backbone to x86 Assembly and they have been since the 1970's when the very first 8086 CPU's were invented.
"Every Programmer Should Know" is a little previous of me. There are plenty of expert programmers that have absolutely no need nor care for any ASM whatsoever. However, if you code and debug C++ and many other native languages, you will find that compilers use these instructions very frequently.
Happy new year all, let's hope it's a good one!
