Aldous Huxley was an English author who is famously known for his novel A Brave New World published in 1931. After his huge success from that novel, he continued to write and dabbled in screenwriting.
The plot takes place in the year 2540 A.D. The world is united, and people are grown like something out of the Matrix movie. Everyone is happy and the caste system is in good standing order.
But as it is in life, nothing is perfect and there something missing for the people that were given the ability to think. Happiness is not for everyone and this novel explores what happiness is and is not for individuals.
The protagonists are Bernard Marx and John the savage.

This book was written with such levity in a plot that many would consider as serious topics including Huxley. He wrote in a such a manner that it places the reader comfortably as one of the observers new to the surroundings but with very little shock of what is happening with no preconceived notions based on how society really is. Everything that is happening has a feeling of commonplace.
The story is serious in its condemnations and it feels like he wrote it in a lighthearted manner to make it approachable by many readers so that it could be received as a warning of what could be if we are not careful.
As I mentioned in my review of 1984 post, I read this many years ago and I have now revisited it. I am glad I did because while I was reading it, most of it was extremely unfamiliar.
I did enjoy book thoroughly. It was difficult to read at times, especially at the beginning to do the back-and-forth banter between characters in separate settings. I eventually got used to his style. For that reason, I gave a 4 rating out of 5.
Everyone should the read the book once, if not twice. I plan on reading it again sometime in the far future. I am curious about his last novel The Island which was his utopian counterpart to A Brave New World.
Next week I will be reading Dan Simmons's, Hyperion. Simmons won a Hugo award for this novel in 1989. I am extremely excited about reading this book because space travel sci-fi is my favorite and I have read two dystopian novels back-to-back. As always, I am excited about the novel I am reading next because it is always exciting venturing into the unknown.
Until next week.
