In this beginners’ tutorial, Rich demonstrates some basic navigating and editing techniques in Melodyne. First he shows multiple ways to scroll and zoom within the window as well as the context menu. He then shows how playback differs when playing audio via Pro Tools, as opposed to playing audio just in the Melodyne window. He then goes on to illustrate how the pitch and timing grids affect editing behavior, as well as how the position of the cursor decides which editing tool is being applied. Next, Rich describes the various backgrounds and snap behavior when using the pitch grid. Then, Rich explains what the blobs and the pitch lines represent, and demonstrates how to separate notes manually and as trills. He then goes into detail about the purpose of Note Assignment Mode and how best to utilize it. Finally, Rich shows the difference between hard and soft separations and how to switch between them.
