Professor David Durrheim is a Public Health Physician, Director of Health Protection for Hunter New England Health, NSW, and Professor of Public Health Medicine at the University of Newcastle.
He Chairs the Australian National Polio Eradication Certification Committee and Chairs the Western Pacific Regional Measles Elimination Verification Commission. He has no ethical qualms about eliminating diseases that kill and paralyse children but is under no illusion as to how challenging eradicating diseases is.
In this webinar Professor Durrheim reviews the current status of polio and measles eradication, talks about the prerequisites for embarking on an eradication effort and addresses some of the lessons learnt from previous and current eradication efforts.
