Here's a new cover reconstruction!
Naked Eyes | Promises Promises (1983)
I started learning this song a year and a half ago and shelved it out of frustration. It just wasn't sounding very good and I underestimated its difficulty. I should say it's not hard to play – more so that it's hard to play well. But I picked it back up again 6 months ago and now it's fun. The bass line in particular is challenging but really groovy.
Did you know? The two guys in Naked Eyes were previously in a band called Neon. And Neon's other members were Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal – the two guys most famously known for the duo in Tears For Fears.
Naked Eyes never toured when this album came out. (The album also has Always Something There To Remind Me). It seems they had extreme difficulty reproducing their studio sound on stage live and decided against touring. I'm not surprised due to the level of detail in their recordings. They employed really talented jazz musicians and very complex arrangements. Four keyboards, three guitars, drums, percussion, bass, vocals.
I'm just glad I was able to reconstruct this song. It's always been one of my favorite 80s tunes.
