Filmmakers rarely give audiences congenial relationships between female characters, but Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967) includes a good mother/daughter relationship and congenial relationships between women. Here Katharine Hepburn and Katharine Houghton hug and have a conversation. Although the inclusion of a conversation (or a hug) between two women does not sound like anything to get excited about it is actually a somewhat rare occurrence in film. Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner scores well for women’s presence and voice and is entertaining.
