The Coil Setup is the second step and the most important step in the process of
making springs. There are many contributing factors to consider when setting up a
machine to coil springs.
The Changeover, tooling is specific to the job and some tools are custom made.
Tolerances, the tighter the tolerance the more entailed the setup.
Tensile strength, setups vary every time due to wire length to keep the tolerance on
the load.
And, Solid Height, the tighter tolerances on solid height require extra attention.
Machines must be set up to produce customer specifications after all processes.
Heat stress relief will change springs ID and OD. Ebsco’s experienced coilers
anticipate these changes and coil springs to a size that results in the customers
specifications after all processes are complete. It takes a skilled coiler to understand
the subtleties in material and heat to make these calculations.
Setup times can range anywhere from 2 hours for a part with minimal tolerance to
10 hours for a part with tight tolerances and multiple processes.

During Run time, some parts require constant monitoring due to tolerances.
Anywhere between 50-2000 parts can be run in an hour.
During the coiling runs, EBSCO trained coilers continually monitor and make subtle
adjustments.
Changing temperatures in the machines and wire, produce deviations in the springs.
Runs that require multiple reels of material require EBSCO Coilers to perform setup
verification for each roll of wire.
