Grand Prince Árpád was the head of the confederation of the seven Magyar tribes who arrived in the Carpathian Basin at the time of the Hungarian conquest in around 895 AD. Born around 845, he was the son of Álmos, who is known as the first head of the confederation. Árpád’s reign as Grand Prince began at around the time of the conquest and ended with his death at around 907. Despite the details of his life being debated by historians due to contradictory information in different sources, Árpád is often referred to as the founder of Hungary and the forefather of Hungarians. His preeminent role in the Hungarian conquest has been emphasized by some later chronicles.
