Jan 1, 1891 - The first headphones ever made. In 1891, French engineer Ernest Mercaider patented an in ear receiver that would be used on telephone receivers.

1910 - Birth of modern headphones. In 1910, Nathaniel Baldwin sent a prototype headphone to the U.S. Navy for them to test it on their communication devices.

1957 - the invention of noise cancellation. In 1957, An engineer named Willard meeker invented the first noise cancellation headphones.

1958 - Birth of stereo headphones. In 1958, The Koss corporation wanted to make a headphone that would sound more realistic like if you were hearing it in person.

1979 - Walkman created and use of 3.5 mm Jack. Sony produced a device called the Walkman it was a hand held radio.

1980s - New headset shape was made. As of this time, new style of headphones were made, they sat ontop of the ear not over the ear.

1997 - Bluetooth wireless headphones. a man by the name of Jaap Haartsen invented the Bluetooth headphones.

2000 - Change in headphone shape. headphone companies began to make buds that could fit further into the ear canal.

2001 - Apple ear buds. Here came the first in a power house legacy of headphones made by Apple or if you will Steve Jobs.

2008 - Beats by Dr. Dre. headphones became more and more artistic as a very famous example being Beats by Dr. Dre became the most popular headphones. They were made by both Steve Jobs and Dr. Dre a rapper that was also extremely popular.

2012 - Customized headphones. As newer tech came along so was the want for customization and need for them to be more stylish, such is shown in Lil Wayne's 1 million dollar custom diamond beats.

2010 - WIRELESS headsets. the start of a new era with WIRELESS headsets the biggest leap in my personal opinion in the history of headphones, example is the newest set of wireless headphones made by Apple.
