Since the first creation of a dedicated SOI unit in 1991, CEA-Leti teams have addressed all the key issues regarding semiconductor technologies on SOI, from technology modules to device understanding up to the full platform implementation. More than 20 years research on SOI has provided Leti with a portfolio of a hundred patents, with hundreds of publications, and close industrial cooperation with high tech companies.
Together with SOITEC, ST Microelectronics and different key partners, CEA-Leti succeeded in leveraging a long term R&D program to develop FDSOI (Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator) CMOS Technology, and aims at combining the intrinsic benefits of SOI with planar semiconductor architecture while using proven, well-understood design and manufacturing techniques. After a decade of research and several relevant demonstrations, FDSOI is now ready for mass production through the existence of a complete industrial supply chain.
