In this video, Chef Eric Crowley, owner of the Culinary Classroom in Los Angeles, shows us how to transport knives safely.
Knife Roll
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The most common professional method for transporting knives is a knife roll. They are designed to protect knives while retaining their sharpness during travel. Knife rolls come in a variety of shapes and sizes. To use a knife roll, you must first unroll it and find its various pouches and knife holders. Slide your knives into the roll's holders, handle first, then fold and roll.
Plastic Clamshell
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This is another type of knife holder that acts as a sheath to protect your knife. It's a plastic case that is molded to fit the size of your knife and snaps over the blade, fitting snugly around it.
If You Don't Have Either of These?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't have a knife roll or a plastic clamshell, you can wrap the knife in a towel, fold the towel over the tip of the knife and secure it closed with a rubber band.
