Over the past month, I've had the incredible opportunity to test the brand-new Mavic 3 Pro drone from DJI. I was very excited when I got told it would be DJI's first triple-lens flagship camera drone with multiple focal lengths - a setup I've always wanted to have on a portable drone.
Now I'm able to capture wide-angle shots (24mm), medium telephoto shots (70mm), and full telephoto shots (166mm), all in the same drone that fits into my backpack. And the best part is I don't need to land the drone in between to switch cameras, as they are all built into the same unit, enabling a seamless switch between three focal lengths mid-flight.
I shot all clips in this video on the new 70mm medium tele camera, which is slowly becoming my favorite focal length for drone shots. The 3x magnification provides the perfect background compression and makes it easier to frame subjects and make them stand out. Even though the quality isn't the same as the main 4/3" Hasselblad sensor, it still delivers impressive results for a 1/1.3" sensor. All footage was shot in 10-bit DLog-M and HLG.
I can't wait to continue testing the Mavic 3 Pro in the coming months, with summer colors and the midnight sun arriving soon here in Iceland.
