SYNTHETIC FIBERS: What are synthetic fibers?
Fiber: The clothes which we wear are made up of fabric. Fabrics are made up of fibers.
Depending upon the source the fibers are classified into two types they are natural fibers and synthetic fibers. Natural fibers: Natural fibers are the fibers which are obtained from plants and animals.
For example: Cotton from plants. Wool and silk from animals: Synthetic Fibres:
The fibers made by human beings are called synthetic fibers or man – made fibers.
For example nylon, polyester, rayon, etc., A synthetic fiber is a chain of small units join together. These units are chemical substance and also called as monomers. Many monomers combined to form a large single unit called as a polymers. The word ‘polymer’ comes from two Greek words. “Poly” means MANY and “mer” means PART or UNIT. So, a polymer is made up of many repeating units. Cotton is a natural polymer of glucose called cellulose.
