Yoda and Dooku’s lightsaber duel in Attack of the Clones revealed the Jedi Master’s skill with a lightsaber, but did you know there was originally more to this duel? In the script, used for the comic book adaptation, instead of gracefully jumping around, the Jedi Master first stood his ground, effortlessly blocking every single one of Dooku’s attacks.

In the movie, we only see Yoda’s impressive abilities with the aggressive lightsaber form of Ataru. However, in this alternate version, he began the duel by using either the defensive Soresu style or the more elegant Makashi form. Dooku had become a master of Makashi, and it was his signature technique. Yoda’s skillful blocks must have felt like an insult to the Sith Lord’s pride. Yoda then smoothly switched to the aggressive Ataru form, launching a flurry of lightning-fast strikes while leaping and bounding around the Geonosian hangar. This incredible display of skill showcased Yoda’s mastery of not just one, but two lightsaber forms, proving his superiority over Dooku.
