Chinese automaker Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC) formally began the assembly of the D20 compact car at a plant in the state of Veracruz, as part of a strategy designed to gain ground in the Mexican market and expand to the rest of Latin America.
The project is in tune with the Belt and Road Initiative, a commercial platform promoted by the Chinese government that seeks out open cooperation and mutual benefits between countries of the four continents.
