This lesson introduces viewers to the demographics, governments, economic systems, modern issues, and culture of the people of South Asia.
Discussed in this video are population demographics such as birth rate, literacy rates, as well as population pyramids of selected South Asian countries. Additionally, reasons for South Asia's high population are provided. The lesson also makes the linkage between South Asia's high population and its high poverty rates and why nearly 1/2 of the world's poor live in South Asia.
The economies and government system of each country are explained and how India has used the free market and out-sourcing to reduce its poverty rate.
Then elements of culture such as education, family, marriage, sports, music, and architecture are examined.
CORRECTION: In the video, I stated that Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world. This is incorrect. Their population density is about 2900/square mile, but they are only the 10th most densely populated country (7th by some other measures). Sorry.
