A ceremony held Tuesday morning in the Huangdi Mausoleum to honor Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor, attracted Chinese descendants worldwide to the Huangling County, northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
The ceremony began at 09:50, in the booming of 34 drumbeats, representing China's 34 provincial administrative regions and nine bell rings, meaning the highest honor, resonated from the peak of the Qiaoshan Mountains.
The ceremony progressed in several steps, such as beating drum, ringing bell, presenting bouquets, giving elegiac address, and singing and dancing.
Over 10,000 representatives, including government officials, members of various democratic parties, mass organizations, compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao, overseas Chinese and young people from Taiwan, attended this ceremony.
"This is an experiential way for young people in Taiwan to learn about the nation. As advocated by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, people in Taiwan should come to the mainland to experience their own culture and history so as to fully understand their responsibility and mission in realizing the prosperity of the nation,"said Yok Mu-ming, Chairman of the New Party in Taiwan.
Huangdi is considered the first ancestor of the Chinese nation and its culture, and the Huangdi Mausoleum is the national shrine worshiped by all the Chinese. Honoring Huangdi in the Huangdi Mausoleum is a traditional grand event for the Chinese nation, representing Chinese people’s long-lasting reverence for ancestors.
