In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Randall Warnas of FLIR about the company's latest product partnership with DJI: the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual. This aircraft incorporates a dual thermal and visible light camera, mounted on a three-axis gimbal. Based on FLIR's Lepton camera core, the Dual provides a 160x120 thermal image, along with a high-definition visible light image. The thermal image includes radiometric calibration, allowing it to provide accurate temperature measurements for any pixel in the frame, either during the flight or in subsequent analysis. It also incorporates FLIR's patented MSX technology, which detects the edges in the visible light image and superimposes them on the thermal image, making it easier to recognize people and objects. One potential use case for this platform is first-in first responders, such as firefighters and law enforcement officers, to gain immediate situational awareness during an emergency, as well as potential industrial uses, such as inspection. The unit will sell for $2,699 and is set to be released in the next few weeks.
