Prison phone calls are shockingly expensive. According to the Prison Policy Initiative, the receiver of a prison call is charged $3 for 15 minutes. The costs are putting families, and particularly women, into debt. In December 2022, Congress passed a new law that will allow the FCC to regulate the prices of prison calls. The legislation will likely force the $1.4B prison call industry to change its tune.
