In 1959 Diahann Carroll would be the very first Black performer to sit on the Tonight Show Couch when original host, Jack Parr invited her to sit down.
This was a major step for Black entertainers because in the past Black people were only invited to PERFORM and then exit left. This broke a major color barrier on American television.~~ Shannon
