The Kalashnikov USA Komrad 12 is a really cool 12.5" barreled 12 gauge firearm based on the Saiga 12 shotgun. Earlier this year I got the itch to try some magazine fed AK style shotguns, so I picked up the Komrad 12 and Fostech Origin 12 as well. They're both a lot of fun, but not without issues and growing pains. I have been interested in the Komrad for a couple years now but didn't go for it initially because I was under the impression that using expensive high powered ammunition would be required to get it to run. When I learned that the CSS Light Load Reliability Kit that's made for Saigas also works in the Komrad 12, I decided to give it a shot.
This is the 2nd video in my 3-video series in search of a reliable and fun magazine fed semi-auto shotgun. Make sure to check out my videos on the Fostech Origin 12 and Genesis Arms Gen-12 for the full story.

I shot over 100 rounds in this session and had a ton of fun. The function was definitely not flawless, but it did improve throughout the session and I did also find that it ran better than the Origin did for me initially. I believe there's some break-in required with these platforms so I'll keep shooting it and hopefully it will continue to improve with time.
The only customizations I made to this firearm before shooting this session was the CSS Reliability Kit, the KUSA muzzle brake, and I also swapped out the pistol grip to a TDI grip that I find more comfortable. Otherwise the Komrad is completely stock here. I would say that in terms of the shooting experience, the Komrad exceeded some of my expectations in terms of fun factor and recoil impulse but also did not run as well as I was hoping it would overall. Again, break-in may be a factor here so I'll keep running it and see how it goes.
I think the Komrad from KUSA is a really cool and fun platform for the range, but I don't think it's something I would recommend for home defense or serious use because of the issues I've had so far. These issues don't necessarily mean it's not a fun gun to run at the range, but would definitely prevent me from recommending it for any sort of serious use case.
