Cold weather sleeping bags that are light enough to backpack with can cost big bucks. Make your inexpensive, summer weight bag do dual duty in the Spring/Fall by making it into a layered sleep system. You can put together something to keep yourself comfortable down to about 32F that weighs under 5lbs and costs less than $100.
Basically, this idea is an adaptation of the layered sleeping system the military uses in the MSS sleep system. The military system is designed for ultra-cold weather, but the same principles can be applied to lighter weight gear to achieve cost-effective, 3 season performance.
Note: Dolomite Sleeping Bag shown in the video does not come with a compression sack, that is a Sea-to-Summit compression sack lightly compressed. Uncompressed the bag would be a bit bigger, but still less than half the size of the cold weather sleeping bag I compared it to.
