(24 Dec 2015) Christians living in the Syrian capital attended a rare celebration on Thursday to mark Christmas eve.
In the Bab Sharqi neighbourhood of Damascus a group of activists organised an event in which gifts were delivered to 300 children who lost their parents during the Syrian civil war.
The Al Qassaa neighbourhood was also decorated with dozens of flashing Christmas lights, a rare scene in the area which is normally subject to constant power cuts.
The Syrian civil war has killed more than a quarter of a million people since it started nearly five years ago, and displaced half the Middle Eastern country's pre-war population of 23 million.
