(10 Apr 2014) Two warships passed through Istanbul's Bosphorus strait on Thursday amid tensions over eastern Ukraine.
The USS Donald Cook, a missile guided destroyer, was en route to the Black Sea, according to a statement by US Department of Defence.
The ship is set to participate in operations and exercises in the area.
The American vessel was followed by a French intelligence ship, the Dupuy de Lome.
It was not immediately clear what the French ship's final destination would be.
The Bosphorus strait links Turkey's Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea, where the Crimean Peninsula is located.
In March, Russian troops took control of Ukraine's Crimea, whose citizens then voted in a referendum to secede and join Russia.
