On an impromptu trip, Scott Turner and Jess Caldwell decided to grab the steelhead gear and headed north to the Clearwater River in Northern Idaho to get after some steelhead before the season ended, and Scott breaks the Idaho "Catch and Release" State Record with a huge 39 1/4 inch steelhead. Jess also catches her very first steelhead on this trip and this is just a short and sweet video of a few of their big fish for the day, including the record fish.
The Catch and Release records are separate from the all time weight records, created to make fishing records break-able with such species as the endangered white sturgeon and bull trout without harming the fish. It's been a fun way to create new fishing records for everyone to chase after and to promote fishing and getting outdoors in Idaho. It is also meant to encourage more catch and release fishing in Idaho, to let the big one's go to fight another day.
