Jeff & Julie started out their married life in 1989 in the city of Roanoke, VA. One of their favorite places to go was to Mill Mountain where the Roanoke Star is located. Jeff always loved the views from that overlook and would take many a picture and video. This is a video comprised of several clips he took. There is also walking trails and a zoo near the star. The star was built in 1949 1,045 feet above the city of Roanoke Virginia on Mill Mountain. It was first lit on Thanksgiving Eve. It was built as a Christmas decoration but it was destined to become a landmark and earned the city of Roanoke the nickname "Star City of the South". It is actually 3 stars in one and lit by 2,000 feet of neon tubes. It stands at 88.5 feet in height and weighs 10,000 pounds. It cost 28,000 to build it which the Roanoke Merchant Association sponsored the project of the Christmas Star. Occasionally the colors of the star is changed to Red, White and Blue but mostly remains White throughout the year which was the original color lighting back in 1949. It is visible from the air for 60 miles. #foggypointlight #MillMountainStar #RoanokeStar
