As doctors, we use a special word, 'NIFTI,' to remember all the reasons why back pain might be a sign of something serious. So, don't worry too much if your back hurts now and then, but it's always a good idea to let a doctor check if there could be something more to it.
Back pain is something that affects a lot of people, in fact, around 80% of us will experience it at some point in our lives. It's like a common thing that can happen to anyone. The good news is, for most people, it's not a sign of a really serious sickness or problem. Usually, it's more like a temporary guest that might stay around for a few weeks, sometimes up to 12 weeks, and then it goes away on its own. So, even though it can be uncomfortable, it's usually not something to worry too much about.
NIFTI is a word that doctors use to help us remember the reasons why someone's back might hurt a lot. Each letter in NIFTI reminds us of things that can be serious causes of back pain. 'N' reminds us of 'Neurological' issues, which are problems with your nerves. 'I' is for 'Infection,' like when you're feeling really sick. 'F' stands for 'Fractures,' which are like tiny cracks in your bones. 'T' is for 'Tumor,' meaning there's something strange growing inside your body. And 'I' is for 'Inflammation,' which can make parts of your body swollen and stiff, especially in the morning. So, when doctors talk about NIFTI, we're thinking about these important reasons for severe back pain.
