It’s important for all vehicle owners and drivers in Spain to be aware of the legal requirements and to ensure that they have the necessary insurance coverage in place to comply with Spanish regulations. The type of coverage you choose beyond the mandatory liability insurance depends on your individual needs and preferences, but having insurance is not optional when driving in Spain.

Mandatory Liability Coverage. Any vehicle registered in Spain, including cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, and scooters, must have at least third-party liability insurance. This coverage is compulsory and is designed to cover the driver’s civil liability for damage to people or property in a traffic accident.
