EMAHO NGOTSAR SANGYE NANGWA TAYE DANG
EMAHO! Wondrous Buddha of Boundless Light,
YE SU JOWO TUKJE CHENPO DANG
On your right, the Lord of Great Compassion,
YON DU SEMPA TUCHENTOP NAM LA
And on your left, the Bodhisattva of Great Power,
SANGYE JANGSEM PAKME KHOR GYI KOR
All are surrounded by countless Buddhas and Nodhisattvas.
DEKYI NGOTSAR PAK TU MEPA YI
There is wonderful, immeasurable happiness and joy
DEWACHEN ZHE JAWE ZHINGKHAM DER
In this realm called Sukhavati.
DAK NI DI NE TSE PO GYUR MA TAK
The moment I pass from this life,
KYEWA ZHEN GYI BAR MA CHOPA RU
Without taking another birth,
DE RU KYE NE NANG TE ZHAL TONG SHOK
May I be born there and behold the face of Amitabha.
DEKE DAK GI MONLAM TABPA DI
Having made this aspiration,
CHOK CHU SANGYE JANGSEM TAMCHE KYI
May all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the 10 directions
GEKMÉ DRUBPAR JIN GYI LA BA TU SOL
Give their blessing that it be fulfilled without obstacles.
TEYATA PENTSA DRIYA AWA BODHANAYE SOHA
CHOK DU GYALWA SE CHE GONG
Victors and your children of the 10 directions and 3 times, think of me.
TSOK NYI DZOK LA JÉ YI RANG
I rejoice in the completion of the 2 accumulations.
DAK GI DU SUM GE SAKPE
All the virtue I have gathered throughout the 3 times,
KONCHOK SUM LA CHOPA BUL
I offer to the Three Jewels.
GYALWE TENPA PEL GYUR CHIK
May the teachings of the Victorious Ones flourish.
GEWA SEMCHEN KON LA NGO
I dedicate virtue to all sentient beings.
DRO KUN SANGYE TOP GYUR CHIK
May they all attain Buddhahood.
GETSA TAMCHÉ CHIKDU TE
May all roots of virtue, collected into one,
DAK GI GYU LA MIN GYUR CHIK
Ripen in my mental continuum.
DRIP NYI DAK NE TSOK DZOK TE
May the 2 obscurations be purified and the accumulations be perfected.
TSERING NEME NYAMTOK PEL
May there be long life, no illness, and deepening the experience and realization.
TSE DIR SA CHU NÖN GYUR CHIK
May I traverse the 10 Bodhisattva levels in this life.
NAM ZHIK TSE PO GYUR MA TAK
At the moment of passing from this life,
DEWACHEN DU KYE GYUR CHIK
May I immediately be born in Sukhavati.
KYE NE PEME KHA CHE TE
Once born there, may the lotus open,
LU TEN DE LA SANGYE SHOK
And may I attain buddhahood with that body.
JANGCHUP TOP NE JISI DU
Having attained awakening,
TRULPE DROWA DRENPAR SHOK
May I forever guide beings with emanations.
Description:
Sukhavati is the blissful Buddha field of Amitabha. One of the Buddha fields of the 5 families, said to be located in the western direction.
Since this prayer belongs to the sutra tradition you may chant it without receiving a ritual reading transmission.
According to Jamgon Ngawang Lekpa, the 4 causes of rebirth in Sukhavati are:
1. Generating bodhicitta (the compassionate wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings).
2. Accumulating merit in many ways.
3. Often bringing the Buddha field to mind.
4. Dedicating all one’s sources of merit as causes for rebirth in that pure realm.

Amitabha is a celestial Buddha described in the scriptures of the Mahayana school of Buddhism.
He is the principal Buddha in the Pure Land sect, a branch of Buddhism practiced mainly in East Asia, while in Vajrayana Amitabha is known for his longevity attribute and the aggregate of distinguishing (recognition) and the deep awareness of individualities.
According to the scriptures, Amitabha possesses infinite merits resulting from good deeds over countless past lives as a Bodhisattva named Dharmakara. He is translatable as “Infinite Light”, hence Amitabha is often called “The Buddha of Infinite Light”.
Amitabha Buddha emanates ruby red light. Red symbolizes love and compassion.
Like the setting sun, his radiant form warms and pacifies the hearts of all who gaze at him. As head of the Lotus family, he represents gentleness and openness. This reflects his boundless compassion and receptivity enabling one to feel accepted and protected.
His posture is one of composure and stillness. There is a serene smile of blissful wisdom on his face. He sits in the aspect of meditating, encouraging the viewer to follow the essential teaching of the Buddha, “to subdue one’s mind”
