GERMANWINGS INVESTIGATION
French prosecutors have announced an investigation into the deadly Germanwings Flight 9525 air crash in March. They argue it was clear that co-pilot Andreas Lubitz had intentionally crashed the aeroplane into the French Alps. Both Germanwings and its parent company, Lufthansa, had previously stated that Lubitz had been cleared to fly. However, the doctor treating Lubitz had said he had been experiencing sleep disturbance and eye problems one week prior to the flight. The preliminary investigation is meant to determine if manslaughter charges are appropriate.
NGO BANNED
Pakistan has ordered the charity Save the Children to leave the country over allegations that the NGO participated in "anti-Pakistan" activities. Pakistan has previously linked the charity to the fake vaccination programme the CIA used to track down Osama Bin Laden, accusations the NGO denies. Over the past several months, Pakistan has systematically targeted foreign NGOs.
IMF EXITS TALKS
The IMF has withdrawn from bailout negotiations with Greece. IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said “The ball is very much in Greece’s court.” Rice continued by stating that little progress had been made in recent negotiations. The IMF’s decision to leave talks comes as creditors have become increasingly critical of Greece’s refusal implement their requested austerity reforms. This could lead Greece to a possible default and an eventual exit from the eurozone.
