Here's the opening moments of the Sunday Eyewitness News at 6pm on WLS Channel 7, anchored by Larry Moore and Mary Ann Childers. Includes:
Larry previewing stories of two explosions - one at a near North Side restaurant, the other at a North Pulaski warehouse
Mary Ann previewing stories on changes to bus routes and arrests of four South Side men in connection with a Michigan crime spree
Station ID and Eyewitness News opening titles (with "On Your Side" theme music) - also featuring meteorologist Jim Ramsey and sportscaster Jay Berry on set (voiceover by Mike Rapchak?)
Larry introduces a report he filed on an overnight explosion and fire that reduced a near North Side restaurant - Smugglers Inn, at 166 East Grand - to rubble; an eyewitness to the fire, Laura Falasco, gave her account of what she and her family witnessed from their apartment, and Henry Ciolli of the Bomb & Arson Squad speaks of the upcoming investigation into the explosion that took place on the first floor of the two-story building; he is in the middle of his interview when the tape ends.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, August 31st 1980 at 6:00pm.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,000+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:
