Benmont Tench is the master of understated discernment behind The Beast —Then again, what else would you expect from someone residing within as artistically egocentrically balanced a band as you'll find. TP & The HBs are your quintessential holographic creative force, for, within a hologram every part has the information of the whole enfolded within it —yet, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts —Benmont employs this core covenant in everything he does —He's a veritable master craftsman in keyboard arrangement, as I've never heard a song where I would change one note of what he's laid down —Oh, I've mused over possibilities, but always end up giving him the nod in the end —He is a flawless player —On another note, I just have to say that nobody has better choices in the songs by other artists they honor than TP & The HBs —Almost every time you see them, it's a good possibility they'll whip out an arrangement of something totally hip that's been off everyone's radar and just flatten the whole audience —Case in point —Leo Herrera once took me to see TP & The HBs for my birthday. The show, of course was going along fantastically, as you would expect. All of a sudden they play an awesome version of Thunderclap Newman's "Something In The Air" —We, along with every other musician in the place, just fell out; our mouths open with these looks that said —"That is so cool! Why didn't we think of that?" —And, it's for that reason, along with the fact that it's an iconic organ song, that I chose something you're all sure to love —Please enjoy, the holographic B-3 master, Mr. Benmont Tench, along with Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Howie Epstein and Stan Lynch with a fantastic rendering of the Goffin/King Animals classic, "Don't Bring Me Down"...
