The fort and town of Vindolanda is located near the ancient roman frontier, in the rolling hills of northern England. While there are many ruined forts around the area of Hadrian's wall, this location in particular contains some of the most well preserved roman artifacts found anywhere in the world, including some unique pieces never before discovered. The site is most famous for its hundreds of preserved wooden writing tablets from Roman times, with texts that can still be deciphered.
