The rise in a rare, life-threatening illness in Canada is a mystery to experts. The dangers of streptococcus A bacteria were highlighted recently when a mother died after giving birth in a hospital north of Toronto. For most people, their worst experience with the bacteria is a painful bout of strep throat. But in rare cases it turns nasty, and becomes invasive strep A — and experts don't know why it's happening.
