In this video we’ll cover the co-transport mechanism and the absorption of glucose in the ileum. We’ll begin with a look at the epithelial cells lining the ileum and the use of the microvilli. Then we’ll discuss the use of ATP and how it moves the sodium ions from the epithelial cells into the blood. Next, we’ll investigate how sodium ions diffuse down their concentration, the role of co-transport proteins and how glucose diffuses into the blood. In conclusion, we’ll tackle an exam style question.
