Bhastrika Pranayam is an important Pranayam of yoga.Bhastrika is the name of the Pranayam which imitates the action of 'Bhastra' are the 'bellows'and Fans the internal fire hitting the physical and subtle bodies.
Bhastrika Pranayam is much more similar to kapalbhati Pranayam but in Bhastrika Pranayam both inhalation and exhalation are equal. This is result of systematic and equal lungs movement. In Bhastrika the breath has to be sucked in and pushed out with little force while in kapalbhati inhalation is the result of forced exhalation.
In the practice of Bhastrika the body should remain steady. We should not shake our body. The shoulder and chest should not move. The movement is in only lungs diafragm and abdomen.
The beginners should start with low speed of Bhastrika. Person suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, hernia, peptic ulcer,stroke, epilepsy and Brain Tumor should not practice this Pranayam. In these cases one should consult to doctor and yoga expert before practicing this. If while practicing Bhastrika Pranayam anybody feels dizziness, faintness, vomotting or more perspiration then they one should stop practice and relax for sometime then consult to a yoga expert.
Bhartiya Pranayam is very beneficial for heart, digestive system, respiratory system and brain. The systematic movement of diaphragm gives our heart a smooth massage and Thus make it stronger. The movement of Diafragm gives also a pressure on the digestive organs. The digestive organs move forward and backward. In this process our digestive organs like intestine, stomac, liver become active. Thus it increases appetite. It is also very good for our lungs, because during the practice of Bhastrika our respiratory system get stronger. During the practice of Bhastrika circulation of cerebral fluid is stimulated and it increases the compression and decompression on the brain. So it gives smooth massage to our brain. It also improves the focusing power mind, so it prepare our mind for meditation. Bhastrika purifies our blood also. One should learn this Pranayam from a competent Yoga Guru.
