Today we are talking to Nathan Pevy, a Ph.D. student from Sheffield Uni looking into the differences between types of losses of consciousness - covering epilepsy, dissociative seizures (which aren’t epileptic), and Syncope (fainting). Each of these things can look pretty similar and we aren’t keen on misdiagnoses or being referred to the incorrect clinician. The purpose of this study is to figure out if it’s possible to use a “digital doctor” to diagnose why a person is losing consciousness. Join Nathan and I this Thursday to learn all about the aforementioned, and potential involvement.
Nathan has both a degree in psychology and a masters in computational neuroscience, and is now mixing the two in his Ph.D. to benefit people affected by the aforementioned!
This study will find out whether it is possible to use a ‘digital doctor’ to diagnose why a person has experienced transient loss of consciousness (TLOC). The three common reasons for TLOC are epileptic seizures, faints and dissociative seizures. This is important because people with these conditions require different tests and treatments.
