Now that winter is approaching Western North Carolina it is time for prepping and cleaning gem and mineral specimens I have collected throughout the year. recently I have discovered a vein of calcite and quartz at my Two-Tone Prospect. trying to free the quartz crystals I was damaging and breaking the bottom so I thought of another way around this problem. I removed large sections of the quartz and calcite vein and took it home to dissolve the calcite using muriatic acid. This video shows you the process and how to use muriatic acid for cleaning and exposing crystals underneath it. This was a very rewarding process from start to finish. Feel free to ask any questions or comment below. This technique can benefit you for future cleaning and prepping gems and minerals. it is shocking to see such a beautiful quartz cluster hidden below.
