Shoot The Five with Xavier Porter discusses the career, life-threatening knockout loss that super welterweight contender #PatDay suffered against USBA Super Welterweight Charles Conwell on the Matchroom Boxing / DAZN telecast (10/12/19).
Day, from the Freeport, Long Island (NY), remains under round-the-clock observation from head injuries sustained in a 10th round stoppage loss to Conwell (Cleveland, OH).
The junior middleweight crossroads bout—which took place from Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois—ended with Day knocked down for the third time on the night, leaving him unconscious and requiring the aid of a stretcher in order to leave the ring.
Day (17-4-1, 6 KOs) is now being held at nearby Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he underwent #emergencybrainsurgery and was administered a breathing tube for survival purposes.
Day is now out of surgery and currently in a medically induced #coma
DAZN’s Claudia Trejos reported on air that Day never regained consciousness from the moment he hit the floor to the time he entered an ambulance to be rushed to the hospital.
On site medical staff were quick to his aid, immediately administering an oxygen match while strapping the boxer to a gurney in order to safely remove him from the ring and transport him to proper medical care.
According to Trejos, Day experienced a seizure enroot to the hospital.
Let’s all continue to send our deepest prayers to the Day family and hope for a full recovery.
