I am a POST RDS instructor, and we put an RDS course on every couple of months. Because of this we get this question often. A 25 yard zero is our recommendation for when you are zeroing your handgun optics. If you have a 7, 10, or 15 yard zero people will have to aim at the bottom of the A box to hit dead center at 25+ yards. It’s an unnatural instinct that you have to develop overtime, versus using your instinct of covering what you want to shoot without having to compensate at traditional handgun distances.
