Kicks off the sixth generation CR-V for 2023
The Honda CR-V is Honda's compact crossover, and it's been a stalwart in the segment since it was introduced all the way back in 1997. We've regularly recommended the CR-V because it's spacious, great to drive, easy to use, and frugal enough to make sure you don't feel too much pain at the pump. For 2023, the CR-V gets a from-the-ground-up overhaul. A lot is new, from the bodywork to the interior, but it keeps plenty of what makes the CR-V great.
As the Honda CR-V enters its sixth generation for 2023, a new CR-V Hybrid accompanies it. This compact hybrid SUV was introduced overseas in 2017, and arrived in North America for
2020. Slightly larger than before and now equipped with a revised hybrid powertrain, the 2023 CR-V Hybrid aims to deliver more versatility and capability than its predecessor.
Performance and Fuel Economy

Unlike the standard CR-V's essentially carryover engine, the 2023 CR-V Hybrid's powertrain is revised from the previous generation. Still centered around a 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine, it is paired with two electric motors. Output measures 204 hp and 247 lb-ft, more torque than in any CR-V before. The lockup clutch automatic transmission remains, with FWD standard and AWD available. For the first time, a CR-V Hybrid has a tow rating, in this case 1,000 pounds
The last-gen CR-V Hybrid earned 40/35 mpg city/highway from the EPA. With a new FWD model, however, we expect that higher efficiency will be possible when buyers stick with the Sport model. As for the 2023 CR-V Hybrid AWD's efficiency, we'll see.
Safety Ratings and Features

The 2023 CR-V comes with expanded and enhanced Honda Sensing driver-assist and active safety features. All trims now have blind-spot monitoring, in addition to adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. Honda claims that the sensors providing information to these systems are improved, resulting in smoother responses. Additionally, a snow driving mode and hill descent control are newly standard.
