A while ago I bought a record from my childhood that we only had as a tape back in the day: Spirit of Celtic Music. It has the traditional song Tha mi Sgìth on it... every song on that tape has found its way into my soul and lives there now. So here I try (try!) to sing Gaelic and give my version of one of my favorite melodies.
Tha mi sgith
's mi leam fhin
Buain a rain - ich
Buain a rain- ich
Tha mi sgith
's mi leam fhin
Buain a rain - ich daonn - an
Why should I
sit and sigh,
Pulling bracken,
Pulling bracken,
Why should I
sit and sigh
On the hill-side dreary?
(All alone and weary?)
Cul an tom - ain
braigh an tom - ain
Cul an tom - ain
bhoidh - ich
Cul an tom - ain
braigh an tom - ain
H-uil -e lath -a m'òn - ar
When I see the plover rising
Or the curlew wheeling
Then I trow my mortal lover
Back to me is stealing
